Be careful, if you recompile with these patches. You should
know what you do before changing the email system...

I am running now a Linux system that doesn't have any "mail" group.
No email program ist sgid-mail anymore. The spool dir has perm 1777
like /tmp.

Most Linux distributions have sgid "mail" email-readers and
only group "mail" can write to /var/spool/mail. Some of those
sgid-mail programs have security holes.
